CJC Retro Jam Xmas & 13th Birthday Celebration Extravaganza
Way back in August 2009, Caro Manins got a regular gig: Wednesday nights at Café 121, Ponsonby. Caro thought that it might be good for the scene to share it around. With the help of fellow co-founders Mark Robinson and Roger Manins they came up with the following mission which has been faithfully followed for over 13 years!
“Our vision is to support the growth and development of our improvising musicians, and create an environment where composers and musicians can test and grow their work; to raise the skill level of Auckland's improvising musicians through inspiration, collaboration and interaction.
Musically, we want to be OPEN to other musical influences where music, integrity, creativity, improvisation and Jazz are the common denominators.”
BUT there was one catch ““Rhythm section to play for jam session hosted by Roger Manins 930-10 unless otherwise advised”
And that started our journey.
Ben came on board, and joined the core team a little later when Mark left for parts foreign. And 13 years, 6 venues (Cafe 121, 1885, Albion, Thirsty Dog, Backbeat and Anthology) 3 websites, and 500+ gigs later, we’re here!
So we thought we’d celebrate everything - birthdays, Xmas, lots of gigs - by resurrecting our jam session, that got lost somewhere along the way.
We’ve put our price back to the old 2009 levels, adjusted for inflation (We think. Who knows? If we were accountants we’d probably not be playing music or running gigs).
Join us as we let our hair down (obviously not Ben or Roger). We have a house band, and we hope some special guests.
