Gene Perla: Remembering Elvin Jones'
"Live at The Lighthouse"
Bassist Gene Perla has had a storied career since the late 1960’s, performing and recording with household names such as Sonny Rollins, Sarah Vaughan, The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, and drummer Elvin Jones.
In 1972 Elvin Jones’ group, which included David Liebman, Steve Grossman alongside Gene, played a date at the hallowed Lighthouse Café in San Francisco. It was recorded, and released as Live at the Lighthouse. It instantly became a seminal recording in jazz after Coltrane.
We are thrilled to be able to revisit this powerful music with one of the group’s founding members.
To bring these tunes to life with Gene is a heavy-hitting ensemble, featuring Australian saxophonist Andy Sugg, alongside locals Roger Manins, Kevin Field, and Wellington drummer Mark Lockett.
