Daryl Aberhart is well known in the Australian jazz and blues community as a highly talented vocalist, pianist, composer and lyricist. He has played at many jazz and blues festivals over the past two decades, including Thredbo, Manly International, Bellingen, Dubbo, Jazz In The Vines, Newcastle Jazz, and The Darwin Seabreeze festival, both in his own right and as a sideman with other groups and acts such as blues guitarist Ray Beadle.
The only person ever given the permission and honour to write and record an album of lyrics written to the tunes of American jazz guitarist and composer John Scofield (The Cat Within 2007), Daryl has also recorded a funky, soulfully jazz-ified album of classic Australian radio songs (Aussie Gold Vol 1-2010), as well as a live EP of original works that same year.
Daryl also recorded an experimental free-jazz record with drummer Tim Geldens and bassist Thomas Wade in 2019 (I Don’t Get Out Much), and will shortly be releasing an album of original jazz standards in 2023, Things Might Be Turning Round.
A dynamic and passionate performer, Daryl never fails to delight with his interpretations and arrangements of classic tunes and classy originals. Tonight at CJC Daryl and the band will be playing two contrasting sets, the first more classic jazz focused and the second set exploring some more groovy tunes from his Scofield album and original blues songs.
