Purbayan Chatterjee with Takadimi

Indian sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee returns to CJC, reuniting with local fusion group Takadimi.

Internationally renowned and one of the most sought-after musicians in India, Purbayan is a global ambassador for Indian classical music.

He regularly collaborates with the like of Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and the jazz legend Pat Metheny.

He belongs to the Senia Maihar Gharana (sitar institution) founded by Baba Allauddin Khan and is a recipient of Indian presidential awards, the Aditya Vikram Birla Award, the Rotary international award, and many other prestigious accolades.

Purbayan will again be collaborating with Auckland's Indian and Jazz fusion band Takadimi.

Takadimi blends western jazz elements with ancient ragas and talas of Hindustani music, led by tabla-player Manjit Singh, a face familiar to the CJC audience.

Their 2019 concert together left us spell-bound. This will be another unforgettable might.
