Watch Troy Roberts with Tim Jago

Troy Roberts

Two-time GRAMMY nominated saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts is one of the most in-demand musicians on the New York jazz scene. Having recorded, performed and toured the world with musical luminaries including Joey DeFrancesco, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Kurt Elling, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, Christian McBride, Billy Hart, Orrin Evans, John Fedchock, James Morrison, Sammy Figueroa and John Scofield to name a few, his name adorns numerous essential recordings, he has appeared at most major international jazz festivals, and has presented numerous masterclasses and clinics as a visiting artist in residence at prestigious colleges, conservatoriums and universities around the world.

Based in New York City, Australian-born Roberts maintains a busy recording and performance schedule around the globe as both a leader, and as a sideman with some of the greatest artists of today, and is currently celebrating his fourteenth critically acclaimed release, ‘Nu-Jive: Nations United’.

Being Troy Roberts’ first solo visit to New Zealand, tonight’s very special show is not to be missed, as the saxophonist is joined by Kevin Field (piano), Cameron McArthur (acoustic bass) and Adam Tobeck (drums). The quartet will delve into original compositions and arrangements from the pool of Roberts’ substantial discography, capturing the essence of the moment, and the art of musical conversation.

Versatile in style, with a strong grasp of yesterday and today, he is a force to be reckoned with no matter the setting. He is more than one to watch, he is one to follow closely.
