Elliot Park "Classic meets Jazz"
Incorporating Bach's Melodic Fragments into Improvisation
As a jazz bassist, Elliott Park has always been intrigued by the sound of the cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach. While the use of melodic materials from classical music in jazz is not entirely new, meaningful examples of the successful fusion of these two genres are few.
Elliott translated melodic material from Bach’s cello suites into his improvisation and composition practice which was the main goal of his studies toward his Master of Music degree. This project represents the maiden voyage of multiple arrangements and original works.
