Bex Peterson Quartet

Bex Peterson is one of New Zealand’s greatest expatriate vocalists.  Originally from Auckland, Bex made her name in the jazz scene as an acclaimed exponent of vocal improvisation before branching out to establish herself as a performer and composer in the soul and R&B world.  A prolific songwriter, she wrote all the material for her debut album 81: The Underlove which features Kevin Field on piano.   Under the stage pseudonym Sassy she is a household name in her current home Fiji and is enjoying success as a top charting artist in the Pacific.  Her pop hit Kalokalo Volasiga has been the most requested song on local radio in Fiji and Pacific radio stations in NZ.

Touring and recording with the cream of NZ musicians, she has performed for royalty in Tonga and headlined at Vanuatu’s Fest Napuan with popular 10-piece funk band ONE MILLION DOLLARS as well as opening for Black Seeds (NZ) and Dizzee Rascal (UK) in Sydney.

Bex has had a long musical association with pianist Kevin Field and together they have collaborated on several albums.  Their latest collaboration can be heard on the Alchemy album featuring jazz interpretations of iconic kiwi pop songs (). Bex’s sultry vocals have been likened to Dianne Reeves, Jill Scott and Carmen McRae with her modern R&B approach to Jazz.  She is currently working on new original music and plans to release a new jazz album in 2020.

She will be joined for this concert by Kevin Field, Cam MCarthur and Ron Samsom.
